The Katanga Provincial Tennis League has a new president. Elected during the electoral assembly held last weekend, Antoine Salomon Mbefu has officially taken charge of the governing body of Katanga tennis, expressing his determination to unite all stakeholders and revitalize the sport throughout the province.
In his inaugural address, the new president first expressed his gratitude to the tennis community for the confidence placed in him.
It is with immense pride and great emotion that we address you today. Your presence reflects the strength of your commitment and, above all, the love that each of you has for the little yellow ball, said Antoine Salomon Mbefu before club leaders, coaches, athletes, and guests.
The new head of Katanga tennis also praised the involvement of provincial sports authorities and the Tennis Federation of the Democratic Republic of Congo in ensuring the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
We warmly thank the Provincial Sports Division and all its collaborators who mobilized to make this historic day a success. We also thank the President of the Federation for his personal involvement, he emphasized.
Aware of the expectations placed upon him, Antoine Salomon Mbefu stressed the collective nature of his mandate.
Your trust honors us, and we fully understand the extent of our responsibilities. Our mission is not merely a title; it is to be your spokespersons and your servants, he stated.
Placing unity at the heart of his vision, the new executive committee intends to work with all clubs and academies to improve tennis conditions across the province.
Our primary objective is to bring everyone together without exclusion. Together, we can improve the daily reality of our sport, he added.
To turn this vision into reality, several priority areas were announced. The new leadership plans to organize tournaments and championships on a regular basis, strengthen training programs for administrators, coaches, and athletes, and promote tennis among young people.
Special attention will be given to women’s participation and the inclusion of persons living with disabilities. The program also includes the rehabilitation of struggling clubs and the construction of a new Lubumbashi Tennis Center (CTL), considered one of the flagship projects of this new mandate.
Addressing all stakeholders in Katanga tennis, Antoine Salomon Mbefu called for collective mobilization.
This league belongs to you. We cannot achieve these projects alone. We count on your energy, your ideas, and your commitment. The passion you have for tennis is our greatest strength, he declared.
He concluded his speech with a message of hope:
Your commitment is the driving force of our league. May God bless our league and Katanga tennis.
This election opens a new chapter for tennis in the Katanga region, with the stated ambition of strengthening the sport and restoring its full prestige.
Among the priorities announced by the new president is the promotion of inclusion in tennis. Antoine Salomon Mbefu pledged to place special emphasis on young girls and persons living with disabilities, providing them with greater opportunities to access the sport and participate in competitions. For him, the development of tennis in Katanga necessarily requires broader access for all segments of society, without discrimination.
